The National Squash Centre is part of the Sportcity complex that was constructed for the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Since then the site has developed and now includes the City of Manchester stadium, home to Manchester City FC. The National Centre has become the home of major national and international tournaments, including the, the British Open, the Super Series Finals and, coming in 2008, the World Men’s and Women’s Open Championships. We also host many national events here, including the British National Senior and Junior Championships.
Costing approximately £3.5million, the facilities include 6 courts and the only permanently sited glass court in the UK. The fixed courts have moveable walls, with the ability to convert into either singles or doubles courts at the touch of a button. The show court is moveable; i.e. it floats on air like a hovercraft, and can be positioned in the athletics hall for all the major tournaments.
