Do I have to undertake the L1 course prior to progressing through the coaching structure?

Yes. It is essential for every candidate coach, regardless of playing ability to complete the Assistant Coach Award prior to attending the Club Coach Award. This ensures that individuals have the key skills when coaching at grass roots level and ensures coaches have the appropriate assessment prior to progressing up the coaching ladder.

England Squash do have plans to implement a Fast Track Process for elite athletes (eligibility tbc), however this is currently only in the initial stages of planning and timescales are therefore not available at this date. Further information will be placed on the website at the beginning of 2004.

When do the courses take place?

The coaching calendar generally commences at the beginning of September and ends in May. To discover availability on courses outside of the core season, please contact the Coaching Department (0161 438 4318).

How do I go about booking on to a course and what forms do I need to complete?

In order to secure a place on any course you must complete an application form, highlighting the appropriate level of course you wish to attend and forward this with the necessary payment. Coaches attending the L1 course must also submit a completed Personal Disclosure and Reference form although we do not require this information again if a coach progresses to the next level.

When applying for a L3/4 course additional information is required. Coaches applying for the Advanced Coach Award must also forward the necessary L3 reference form (different to general reference form), which provides further information regarding their sport science knowledge and specific details regarding a coach’s playing/coaching experience to date. This form can be located within the forms section of the website.

Coaches applying for the L4 qualification must forward a copy of their curriculum vitae, which will be considered by a panel of individuals.

Places on any coaching course cannot be confirmed without the appropriate form(s) & payment. Email or telephone reservations are not acceptable – a fax is only acceptable if paying by credit card & card details are listed on the fax.

Please return all correspondence to the Coaching Department, The National Squash Centre, Rowsley Street, Manchester, M11 3FF.

What happens if I am not successful when undertaking a coaching award?

If a candidate is deemed unsuccessful at the end of a course there will be opportunities to re-sit the necessary components at a later date. The course tutor will outline the area(s) in which the individuals must improve as well as providing an indication of the timescale in which to apply for re-assessment. All re-assessments will be coordinated via the England Squash Coaching Department rather than through the course tutor/assessor.

RE-ASSESSMENT CHARGES:

Written paper only (where applicable) £30.00
Group/squad lesson only £30.00
Individual lesson only £30.00
Both practical lessons £60.00

Candidates MUST contact England Squash to arrange a suitable date and venue for their re-assessment. Payment must be made in full before any arrangements can be made. Reassessments must be completed within 12 months of the original date of the course.

What happens if I withdraw from a course?

Applicants will only be entitled to a FULL refund, providing one month’s written notice is given prior to the starting date of a course. Failure to meet this condition will lead to the following cancellation charges:

Written notice up to two weeks prior to the starting date of the course – 50% REFUND

Written notice less than two weeks prior to the starting date of the course – NO REFUND

Non attendance at a course – NO REFUND

Candidates may only transfer courses having attended the first weekend (only applicable for L2/3 courses) on production of a valid medical certificate. A charge of £50.00 will be made for any other requests and this must be paid prior to arrangements being confirmed.
