HOW HEALTHY IS YOUR CLUB?

Visit www.clubmark.org.uk for more information.

When looking for a new club, what is the first thing you consider?

  • Cost?
  • Quality of courts?
  • How close the club is to your home, school or place of work?
  • Does the club provide members with an opportunity to socialise with other members?
  • Ease of booking court time?

All of these are important and key to you making a decision. But the most important question you should be asking yourself is:

Does the club hold the England Squash Club Charter?

If it does, you can be sure that is has:

  • An infrastructure that is child friendly, accessible and welcoming, with excellent facilities Qualified and fully insured coaches
  • Coaches and officials who have adopted the England Squash Child Protection Policy and Procedures
  • Been approved to deliver the England Squash National Coaching Scheme
  • Experience in developing links with local schools
  • Excellent coaching and competitive programmes accommodating all levels of ability

To find your nearest Chartered Club, go to CLUB SEARCH and enter a location.

Any Chartered Clubs within the search result will appear first on the list.

What is the Club Charter?

The Club Charter is a progressive club development programme with a simple vision to:

  • Increase the number of adults and juniors playing squash through sound playing and competitive club programmes
  • Increase the recruitment, education and development of coaches and volunteers
  • Improve the infrastructure of our club network

This is being achieved by:

  • Clubs contributing to the future of squash both locally and nationally
  • Identifying priority clubs
  • Understanding the developmental needs of our clubs
  • A greater investment in club activity
  • Identifying and supporting the training needs of coaches and volunteers
  • Regular club health checks
  • Greater contact between clubs and their Area Squash Managers

How is the Club Charter awarded?

Clubs apply to England Squash by way of completing a Club Health Check which allows them to identify their own strengths and areas where the Area Squash Managers can offer support.

Clubs will be applying for one of four levels:

  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Performance

The Club Charter award last for 2 years but can be upgraded at any time within that period. In addition, any club that has been awarded the Club Charter since 1st January 2005 or has had their level upgraded, will have met the criteria for Club Mark, the national kite mark of a quality club.

If you are a club wishing to join the increasing number of Chartered Clubs, then please contact your Area Squash Manager or click here to register your clubs details.
