Chester Rugby Club

About Chester Rugby Squash

Chester Rugby Squash Club is one of the best known squash clubs in the northwest, and since we started playing squash in 1973, several world champions and international players have represented the club, notably Peter Nicol (1995 Men’s World Champion, and Sarah FitzGerald, Women’s no 1 in 2003).

Currently the Club has members of various standards ranging from beginners through to County, and all ages. In addition to Squash, we offer Racketball, and coaching is available for players of all abilities.

Courts cost £4 for a 40 minute session (ie £2 per person)

Membership

Club membership is £135 per annum (£60 for juniors), which is Chester RUFC membership. In addition to Squash and Racketball, this allows you access to all Chester RUFC events and matches (except 1st XV). The membership year runs from 1st August, but we discount this pro-rata when new members join mid-year.

Members have their own door key and can play any time.

New members are welcome to come along to a few club sessions before committing to membership.

Social

We have club Squash sessions every Monday evening (6.30 – 9pm ) and Saturday afternoon (4 -6pm). These are drop in sessions where people turn up and play whoever is there, for 3 games, on a rotating basis. In that way you play a range of players. In the summer (and in the winter on the few occasions when there are no league matches) we also have club sessions on Thursday evenings. Cost is £3 per session.

Teams

We have 4 teams that compete in the Northwest Counties Squash League (Divisions 2, 3, 4, and 5) every Thursday evening from late Sept to early April, and also one team in the Welsh League Division 1 that plays at home on alternate Tuesday evenings. We also compete in a less formal Summer League on Thursday evenings from May to July.

Coaching

Group coaching is available on Saturday morning from 0930 to 1045 for juniors, beginners and improvers (£5 for adults, £3 for juniors).

One to one coaching is available by arrangement with Rachael Chadwick, our professional who plays on the womens’ professional circuit, and Robbie Blair, both of whom are England Squash Level 2 coaches.

Court Hire

Courts are available for hire during off peak times (weekdays and Sundays, 8am to 5pm) by clubs, groups, or individuals who need a squash court space for various activities such as Pilates, yoga, fitness classes, Zumba, table tennis etc). Please contact us for more details.

Grafton Tennis/Squash Club

The Club

The Grafton Club is probably Balham, Streatham and Clapham's best-kept secret -- it is a green oasis in South West London. We welcome tennis and squash players of all standards and age groups, and are very family-oriented with strong junior sections and good standard county teams.

We offer 8 all weather floodlit tennis courts in a tree-lined, green space with a garden area and patio, 3 high-spec squash courts, fully-stocked bar, online booking system, changing rooms, large clubhouse and car park.

We adhere to a strict equality policy and maintain the club to ensure a safe environment.

We are easily accessible: 3 minutes’ walk from Nos 50 and 255 bus stops, 15 minutes from Streatham Hill station or 15-20 minutes from Clapham South tube and have a large car park. Grafton Squash Club Location

So drop in to check us out or contact us for more information.

Grafton Squash

Grafton has three squash courts and runs a comprehensive internal league each month, with around 18 boxes comprised of more than 80 participants. This ensures a wide-ranging standard across the club.

We also run a social squash evening every Sunday from 17:00 and every Wednesday from 1815, providing a great opportunity to play opponents of different standards, and meet other members.

The club run a club closed and a handicap tournament each year, with more informal, social tournaments organised throughout the year as well.

Squash Teams

Grafton has three teams actively playing in local tournaments including Surrey Summer and Winter competitions (Surrey County Squash Website).

The first team is currently in Division 4, the 2nd team in Division 6, and third team in Division 7. All members are welcome to represent the club and enjoy the competitive nature of inter-club team fixtures.

Squash Coaching

Graeme Hogarth is the Club Coach. He is a England Squash Level 1 Coach, who is available for one to one or group sessions. His rate is £30 first session and £25 every subsequent session. He has a current offer of 4 sessions for £90. He also provides a racquet re-stringing service.

Junior Squash Programme

A successful junior squash programme has run at the Grafton for the past four years with coaches Graeme Hogarth (ESR level 1 and organiser) and Duncan Marlow (ESR level 2). We meet on Saturdays (in term time) from 4:00-5.30pm and have players of all abilities and ages (currently from 8-18). We try and have a mix of technical development and fun games, often having handicapped tournaments so that players of all standards can play one another. At the advanced level, some of our players represent Lambeth at the London Youth Games.

Sessions are open to both members and non-members and work on a pay and play basis (currently £5 per session). We provide rackets, safety goggles, balls and chocolate biscuits so come along and get introduced to a life-long hobby.
