Rules and regulations

View our National School Championships 2018-19 Rules and Regulations.

Working in consultation with our Junior Focus Group, England Squash has undergone an extensive review of the National Schools Squash Competition. Following on from this review, we have updated both the competition format and our rules and regulations to reflect the feedback that we have received from team managers, parents and players. Please take the time to read through our updated rules and regulations.

Notable changes to this year’s competition include;

Plate competition – The reintroduction of the Plate competition will allow for all teams to remain in the competition beyond stage 1. A new cumulative point scoring system will be in place for the plate competition that will aid player development and drive participation.

Championship Competition – The Championship Competition will be for those teams that advance through their stage 1 groups as winners or runners-up. A performance-based scoring system will be used to maintain a competitive edge that will help drive performance.

Centralised venues - In an effort to reduce the number of days out of school, each stage will now run across one day with all group games being played in a mutual venue decided by Team Managers. Both ‘Plate’ and ‘Championship’ finals will be hosted by England Squash in a central venue to be confirmed.

Gender – female players may play for male teams in the event that their school does not enter a female team. Male players may not play for female teams.

For further details of this year’s format, check out our Tournament Guide.
