2018 National Schools Champions crowned!

The annual National Schools Championships Finals took place this week in Nottingham with 30 school teams vying to have their names etched on the coveted trophies.

Spectators were treated to squash of the highest order at Nottingham Squash and Rackets Club as the country’s leading squash schools including former title holders Wycliffe and Millfield, went head to head in 28 matches across seven courts over two days.

Now in its 46th year, the National Schools Championships provides all schools, whatever their standard, a chance to play competitive squash and comprises of Boys and Girls Under 13s, 15s, 17s and 19s categories.

Action commenced on Monday with the Boys Under 13s, 15s and 17s playing out a semi-final monrad and the Girls Under 13s playing out a three-team round robin group. Tuesday saw the Girls Under 15s play out a three-team round robin group with the Girls Under 17s, 19s and Boys under 19s playing out a semi-final monrad.

In the Boys Under 19 final, nine-time champions, Wycliffe College won the trophy for a tenth time, beating seventeen-time champions Millfield School. Meanwhile, Dame Allan’s School clinched the Girls Under 19 title for the first time after downing 2016 winners Wycliffe College.

In other age categories, Wycliffe and Dame Allan’s School claimed the Boys Under 15 and Girls Under 15 titles respectively. Meanwhile, Ackworth claimed their maiden Boys Under 17 title and Comberton Village won the first ever Girls U17 title beating Ackworth in the final.

Kings College Cambridge were victorious in the first ever Boys U13 final and Gosforth Trust emerged as the winners in the inaugural Girls Under 13s.
