Start your day right: how to use breakfast to get the most out of performance

As all sportsmen are acutely aware, breakfast is a vital meal to start the day and in breaking the overnight fast. Indeed, beginning the day correctly and injecting the right types of fuel into the body is an integral part of maximising performance, providing you with the energy and nutrients required to go on and flourish on the court.

England Squash’s Performance Nutritionist, Ollie Turner, shares his three top tips on how to kick start your day in the best possible way…

1. Match carbohydrate portion to the training day Throughout a week, players will encounter a variety of different training and rest days. Carbohydrates are the body’s high intensity fuel and consequently if a player has 3-4 hours of high intensity training in one day, they will require a lot of carbohydrate to ensure they are well fuelled for the sessions.
