England set up final showdown with Egypt at Women’s Team Champs

England overcame a valiant Hong-Kong side to set up a final clash with top-seed Egypt at the Women's World Team Squash Championships 2016 in Paris.

Second seeds England reached the final for the 12th time in a row since 1992 after beating Hong Kong 2/0 in the semi-final.

World number four Laura Massaro came from a game down to beat 12th-ranked left-hander Annie Au in the first rubber. This hard fought opening victory proved key as Sarah-Jane Perry then cruised past Liu Tsz-Ling 3-0.

The defending champions, who will be seeking their eighth World Team title, head into Saturday’s final against a dominant Egyptian side who recorded straight-set wins in their pool over India, Mexico and New Zealand and now boast the top three ranked players in the world.

Whilst Egypt will be hungry to rob England of the team title that they won in Canada two years ago, Senior National Coach David Campion believes his side will not relinquish it easily against the world number-one ranked team.

"We are delighted to be in the final. The girls have worked very hard to get here. We will apply as much pressure as we can to the Egyptian team and make ourselves hard to beat. We will need to defend well and attack them when we get our chances. If our girls play to their level and express themselves, they will put themselves in the hunt."

Laura Massaro added,

"We are all really excited to play in the final today. We feel we have nothing to lose and will go out there and give it our best to win!"

The action kicks off at 3pm (UK time). Keep up with all the news from the Championships on the official website and visit our Twitter page for results and reaction.
