England squad announced for the 2022 WSF World Doubles Championships

With a world-class line up featuring Sarah-Jane Perry and James Willstrop, England Squash has announced the squad that will be heading to Glasgow for the 2022 WSF World Doubles Squash Championships between April 5-9.

Following her meteoric rise through the rankings, World No.11 Georgina Kennedy will be teaming up with the young talent Lucy Turmel, who broke into the top 25 in the world rankings for the first time in 2021. Meanwhile, World No.5 Sarah-Jane Perry will join two-time World Doubles Silver medallist Alison Waters.

The Men’s Doubles includes former World No.1 James Willstrop, who will be joined by Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Declan James. World No.27 Adrian Waller is also set to chase silverware at the championships alongside two-time Commonwealth Games doubles medallist Daryl Selby.

For the Mixed Doubles, Patrick Rooney, who has achieved his highest world ranking at No.25 this month, will play alongside Georgina Kennedy, with Adrian Waller and Alison Waters heading up the other team.

The 2022 WSF World Doubles is organised by Scottish Squash, with all the action taking place at Glasgow Life's Scotstoun Leisure Centre.

Commenting on the squad, National Coach David Campion said:

“We have a strong doubles squad that involves a mix of experience and youth, with a few new players to the doubles scene. The Commonwealth Games is a huge focus for all the teams, and we are all delighted to have this event for some much-needed competition. A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to prepare for doubles, and the players have been highly committed to the preparations. We are ready and looking forward to the Championships in Glasgow.”

Willstrop, a three-time doubles Commonwealth Games medallist, said:

“It’s such an honour to be selected to represent England at the World Doubles. Doubles is always really exciting and it’s been great to team up with Declan again after our medal at the last Commonwealth Games. I’m just really pleased to be able to play and compete in Glasgow, I feel in decent shape at present so hopefully that continues and I’m looking forward to the matches ahead”

Sarah-Jane Perry said:

“It’s a real pleasure to be chosen for the England squad at the World Doubles and to play alongside Alison. She’s an incredible doubles player with a wealth of experience in major events as well as a great friend and role model. Doubles preparation is all about teamwork and it’s been amazing to see some of the younger talent giving it their all in practice. I can’t wait to step on court and compete in Glasgow.”

15 nations will compete for honours at the upcoming WSF World Doubles Squash Championships, which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland for the first time, between April 5-9.
