England Squash celebrates Pride Month

Group of players from Northern Rebound LGBTQ+ squash club
June marks Pride Month across the UK and the world and is a time for LGBTQ+ people and their friends and families to celebrate, and to remember the history of the LGBTQ+ rights movement.

At England Squash we know that LGBTQ+ people are less likely to take part in sport and physical activity, and we’re committed to better understanding the reasons for this to enable us to create inclusive, welcoming environments for everyone to take part and reach their potential.

A survey by Pride Sports in 2016 found that 55% of LGBT men were not active enough to maintain good health, compared to 33% of men in the general population and that 56% of LGBT women were not active enough to maintain good health, compared to 45% of women in the general population.

We’re marking Pride Month by updating our logo across our social media channels to feature the inclusive LGBTQ+ pride flag, sharing personal stories, and signposting to guidance on how we can work together to make squash more inclusive.

If you would like to share your experiences of being an LGBTQ+ player, coach, referee or volunteer in squash, please send your story and a couple of photos of yourself to: participation@englandsquash.com.
