England Squash launches The Marksman film

England Squash has produced a short film charting James Willstrop’s success on the world stage. The Marksman, released ahead of the forthcoming AJ Bell British National Squash Championships next week, is a deeply insightful documentary charting the rise of James Willstrop from ‘schoolboy sensation’ to World No.1.

Featuring exclusive behind the scenes footage from the Gold Coast and interviews with father Malcolm Willstrop, James reflects candidly on the astonishing highs of Commonwealth gold to the numbing lows of career-threatening injuries.

The England No.1 said:

“I really enjoyed making this film and loved watching it and reliving the memories. Film is a great vehicle for inspiring people and if this documentary can inspire some interest in the game then that really is a fantastic thing. I’m very grateful to England Squash for making this happen and really enjoyed working with Giles and the team at Dair.”

Keir Worth, England Squash CEO said: “To become World No.1 and a Commonwealth Games gold medallist are enormous feats and we are incredibly proud of everything James has achieved. We are absolutely thrilled to bring James’s story to life through this film. The Marksman gives an intriguing insight into the mindset required to become a world-class athlete. We hope it will inspire future generations.”

A private screening of the film was held tonight at Pontefract Squash & Leisure Club to a rapturous audience.
