England Squash members accept governance reforms

England Squash’s membership has voted in favour of governance reforms necessary for the national governing body to comply with the government’s new Code for Sports Governance.

At the AGM held on 11 November, the Board put forward a reform proposal to ensure that England Squash would meet the new standards of governance required by the Government and Sport England.

A 75% majority was required to pass the changes. The Board’s proposal was passed with 98% of its members in favour.

England Squash is now on track to be declared compliant with the code, which is a condition of the £7.9m funding award from Sport England.

Keir Worth, CEO of England Squash said,

“We are delighted the reform has been passed and we would like to thank our members for safeguarding our sport and for their ongoing support."

“The vote heralds an exciting new era for squash, and the funding from Sport England for elite and grassroots participation will allow us to deliver our new strategy over the current cycle.”

Professor Carter, England Squash Chair said, “These reforms are a significant step forward in ensuring England Squash is meeting the requirements of UK sports governance best practice and will allow for greater independence and diversity in our sport.”

Phil Smith, Director of Sport at Sport England said: “Sport England is delighted to hear that England Squash members have voted in favour of the proposed reforms. The Code for Sports Governance sets high standards for the running of sport and the changes will ultimately benefit everyone who plays the sport now, and in the future.”
