Hertfordshire and Yorkshire were crowned Senior Intercounty men’s and women’s champions 2019 respectively following a thrilling finals weekend in Nottingham.

The event, held at the University of Nottingham from 7-9 April saw the top counties in Britain competing to be named Premier Division champions.

Defending champions Hertfordshire, which includes Commonwealth Games Silver medallist Adrian Waller claimed their fourth championship title after edging 2017 champions Sussex in a five-match thriller.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire claimed the women’s title after topping their box and setting up a final showdown with Essex. Yorkshire prevailed winning 3-2 to claim their eleventh championship title.

Competitions and Events Organiser Andrew Pilling said: "A big thank you to all the teams that took part in our Senior Inter County Premier Division and Division 1 finals. Another fantastic weekend of squash was played out in a well spirited atmosphere. This year’s event was twice as exciting with both the Premier Division and Senior Division 1 promotional play-offs taking place in Nottingham at the same time.

"Congratulations to Hertfordshire who retained their men’s title for a second year running and to Yorkshire who won the women’s. Well done to all our Division 1 teams also who won promotion and will be competing in next year’s Premier Division.

"A special mention to our tournament organiser Chris Truswell for all his efforts in organising this year’s competition."
