Top clubs prepare to vie for national crown

The country’s finest squash and Squash 57 clubs in England including Colets and Edgbaston Priory will compete for eight titles this weekend in the No5 Barristers Chambers National Club Championships Finals at Edgbaston Priory Club.

The finals, which are free to spectators, sees more than 30 club teams in England compete for the national titles, with the winners of the men’s and women’s event representing England at the European Club Championships taking place in France in September.

Commencing in October 2017, the group stages kicked into life with 98 teams gunning for spots in the finals with titles up for grabs in eight categories including; men’s, women’s, mixed O35’s, O45’s, O55’s, mixed juniors squash, a non-county player competition and men’s squash 57 events.

Seeking to retain their 2017 champions crown will be No.1 seeds Colets, featuring the likes of 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medalist Daryl Selby, Richie Fallows, Angus Gillams and Rui Soares.

Other challengers include Edgbaston Priory Club boasting a strong team including Gold Coast semi-finalist Joel Makin, Jan Van Der Herrewegen, Jamie Haycocks and Chris Ryder. Also vying for the title are club sides Roehampton, Grantham, Vivo (Bristol), Peterborough, Wimbledon and Kingswood.

In the women’s event, Edgbaston Priory Club are top seeds with a side led by Deon Saffery, Alicia Mead and Beth Parker. Kenilworth, Pontefract and Roehampton complete the line-up.

With the sponsorship and support of No5 Barristers Chambers for the second year in succession, the event continues to grow in stature, creating a healthy and vibrant competition.

To help the environment, all tournament t-shirts will be made from plastic debris found in the ocean, including fishing nets and bottles, courtesy of Andy Murray at IPROSPORTS and partners Ocean Balance, who transform discarded waste into high performance sportswear.
