Talent Pathway Playing Guide

Find out what it takes to succeed in the talent pathway. Below gives a guide towards what events to play, what squads to take part in and roughly what type of training is required at each aspect of the talent pathway. It must be noted that these are guidelines and each individual will be different. Therefore this shouldn't be taken literally but worked with alongside each individuals coach to find a fit best for them.

County

Squads

- County Squads are run across the course of the year and vary from county to county. For more information please contact your county association

Events

- Between 10-14 events in a year consisting of:

- 4-6: Silver Events - A selection of the 6 events in the year based on the geographical spread the players individual calendar

n.b. these events will be ranking dependent and often have reserve lists in over subscribed categories due to the high demand. It is encouraged players enter, refunds are issued if entry is unsuccessful.

- 2-12: Bronze events based on how many of the Silver-Platinum events they get into

- 1-2: Regional Closed, and County Closed

Representation Events

- It is likely that players will be selected for their counties at the Inter County Championships. For further details please contact your county association.

Training

- Training will vary from individual to individual however the average number of hours a week will range between 2-6 hours depending on the time of season and nature of that week. This will consist of:

- On court matchplay, and league squash

- Individual coaching sessions

- Group coaching sessions

- Off court physical work

- Participation in other sport

Aspire

Squads

- 5 Aspire squads across the course of the year

Events

- Between 10-14 events in a year consisting of:

- 1: Platinum Event - Dunlop British Junior Open

- 4: Gold Events - Dunlop British Junior Championships, Dunlop English Junior Championships, the South West Gold (Millfield), and the Surrey Gold

- 4-6: Silver Events - A selection of the 6 events in the year based on the geographical spread the players individual calendar

n.b. these events will be ranking dependent and often have reserve lists in over subscribed categories due to the high demand. It is encouraged players enter, refunds are issued if entry is unsuccessful.

- 2-12: Bronze events based on how many of the Silver-Platinum events they get into

- It is likely that players within the Aspire will further compete for their Region at the Regional Team Championships, and their counties at the Inter County Championships

- If selected they will be further invited and expected to attend the representation preparation squad for the Regional Team Championships

Training

- Training will vary from individual to individual however the average number of hours a week will range between 4-10 hours depending on the time of season and nature of that week. This will consist of:

- On court matchplay, and league squash

- Individual coaching sessions

- Group coaching sessions

- Off court physical work and participation in other sport

England Potential

Squads

- 8 England Potential Squads across the course of the year

Events

- Between 10-14 events in a year consisting of:

- 1: Platinum Event - Dunlop British Junior Open

- 4: Gold Events - Dunlop British Junior Championships, Dunlop English Junior Championships, the South West Gold (Millfield), and the Surrey Gold

- 4-6: Silver Events - A selection of the 6 events in the year based on the geographical spread the players individual calendar

- 1-2: Regional Closed, and County Closed

- 1-2: International Events such as; US Junior Open, Egyptian Junior Open, Dutch Junior Open etc

Representation Events

- It is likely that players within the England Potential will further compete for England in representation events including the: U15/17 European Team Championships and the 5 Nations Team Championships. Details can be found in the selection policy.

- If selected they will be further invited and expected to attend the representation preparation squad

Training

- Training will vary from individual to individual however the average number of hours a week will range between 6-12 hours depending on the time of season and nature of that week. This will consist of:

- On court matchplay, and league squash

- Individual coaching sessions

- Group coaching sessions

- Strength and Conditioning and off court physical work

- Players are encouraged to build their own support teams consisting of a squash coach and other expertise utilised depending on the individual.


England Development

Squads

- 6 England Development Squads across the course of the year

Events

- Between 10-14 events in a year consisting of:

- 1 Platinum Event - Dunlop British Junior Open

- 4 Gold Events - Dunlop British Junior Championships, Dunlop English Junior Championships, the South West Gold (Millfield), and the Surrey Gold

- 3-6 Silver Events - A selection of the 6 events in the year based on the geographical spread the players individual calendar

- 3-4 PSA Closed Satellite or Challenger events

- 1-2 International Events such as; US Junior Open, Egyptian Junior Open, Dutch Junior Open etc

Representation Events

- It is likely that players within the England Development will further compete for England in representation events including the: World Junior Championships, European Junior Championships and the U15/17 European Team Championships. Details can be found in the selection policy.

- If selected they will be further invited and expected to attend the representation preparation squad

Training

- Training will vary from individual to individual however the average number of hours a week will range between 8-15 hours depending on the time of season and nature of that week. This will consist of:

- On court matchplay, and league squash

- Individual coaching sessions

- Group coaching sessions

- Strength and Conditioning

- Players are encouraged to build their own support teams consisting of a squash coach and strength and conditioning coach with other expertise utilised depending on the individual.

- England Development players are encourage to connect and make best use of our Performance Hubs whether that be on a weekly basis or in school holidays.
