England's gold rush at World Masters

England swept the medal table at the 2016 World Squash Masters Championships (24-30 September) in Johannesburg clinching a spectacular six gold titles.

A record 951 players competed in the World Squash Federation event featuring 19 men’s and women’s categories, from the Over 35s to the Over 80s.

The week-long event, which welcomed more than 950 international players representing 34 nations, saw England claim an incredible six gold, eight silver and three bronze medals.

Nick Taylor was awarded 'Player of the tournament' following an epic comeback, toppling top-seeded South African Michael Tootill and clinching his first World Masters title.

Commenting on his success, the former England international said, “I’ve worked hard for this, it’s a big event and there are a lot of people behind me to thank.

“It feels fantastic to think I’m a world champion!”

There was an all-English final in the Men's O80 in which Malcolm Gilham prevailed, beating John Woodliffe in a thrilling 40 minute five-setter.

The 055 final saw Kent’s Karen Hume celebrate her first Masters success after being two games down to beat top-seeded fellow countryman Jill Campion.
