Roberts and Coulcher-Porter double up in Nottingham

Dylan Roberts and Emily Coulcher-Porter both added English Junior Championship U19 titles to last year's British trophies this weekend in Nottingham.

In a repeat of last November's British Junior Championship BU19 final, top seed Dylan Roberts (Kent) was a rapid 11-3, 11-2, 11-8 winner over [2] Ronnie Hickling (Surrey) on Sunday.

Roberts, who is coached by the renowned Rob Owen, said: "That's probably the best match I've played in a long time. My error count was low and I was putting the ball away really well. After the first two games, I was pretty confident of taking the victory.

"Being British and English champion sounds pretty good. It's a great way to end my junior career."

Sadly, the GU19 final was a walkover as Emily-Coulcher-Porter (Bucks) added the EJC title to the British crown she won in November in Sheffield, courtesy of opponent Mariam Eissa (Warks) withdrawing through injury.

Coulcher-Porter, who has a unique ambidextrous hand-swap technique, won an epic semi-final 7-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-5 against [3/4] Reka Kemecsei (Sussex) earlier in the day.

"I was actually sitting eating lunch when I got the call saying that Mariam had withdrawn," said Coulcher-Porter. "It was a weird way to become champion but I'm happy with the squash I produced in the tournament."

Top seed Luke McBride (Surrey) was a comfortable 11-5, 11-6, 11-8 victor over [2] Ali Khalil (Warks) in the BU17 final, defending the title he won this time last year.

Top seed Ameerah Ismail (Warks) added the GU17 trophy to her previous EJC U15 and U13 silverware by defeating [2] Renata Colabella in a mammoth five-setter - 12-10, 11-8, 4-11, 7-11, 13-11.

BU15 top seed Alexander Koa-Wing (Middx) was stunned in the semi-finals in four games by [3/4] Tristan Sutton (Essex), but second seed Kai Miller (Warks) got the better of him in the final with an 11-9, 15-13, 11-9 win.

The GU15 final was a duel between the U13 champions of the past two years respectively, [1] Esther Chak (Surrey) and [2] Sienna Hampshaw (Yorks). It was Chak who claimed her second EJC title via a 7-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-3 victory.

[3/4] Daniel Stevenson (Gloucs) toppled British BU13 champion [1] Logan Willstrop (Yorks) in the semi-finals but couldn't repeat the feat in the final as second seed Ben Lamond (Dorset) was the victor 11-6, 11-6, 8-11, 11-3.

GU13 top seed Siona Mishra (Warks) outlasted [2] Freya Hennings (Surrey), finishing ruthlessly with a bagel in an 11-4, 12-10, 7-11, 11-0 victory in the GU13 showpiece.

Top seed Archibald McLeod (Warks) continued his domination of the BU11 domestic scene although he was severely tested by [2] Gabriel Cannistraci (Middx) in a 11-9, 9-11, 16-14, 11-6 final tussle.

Top seed Abigail Zeng (Avon) raced into a two-game lead in the GU11 final then resisted a mini-comeback by [2] Arya Knobbs (Warks) to win 11-4, 11-3, 7-11, 11-8.

BU9 finalists [1] Luke Woodward (Hants) and [2] Bram Willstrop (Yorks) had sailed into the final without dropping a game, and it was the top seed who maintained that record with an 11-7, 11-5, 12-10 victory in the final.

The GU9 draw was organised into a group of five which came down to the final clash between top seed India Stone (Surrey) second seed Lani Campion (Yorks), daughter of former England coach David Campion and ex-world no.15 Sarah Campion. It was Stone who took it 11-1, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8.
