England legend Sarah-Jane Perry awarded OBE for Services to Squash
One of England’s finest squash players, Sarah-Jane Perry, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2026 New Year Honours. A fitting tribute to her outstanding contribution to squash, both as an elite international athlete and as a tireless advocate for equality, leadership and grassroots growth in the sport.
Perry recently retired following an illustrious career spanning more than a decade at the very top of the game. She reached a career-high world ranking of no.5, captured 11 PSA World Tour titles, and earned her 100th England cap at the 2025 European Team Championships - a remarkable milestone that underlines her longevity, consistency and elite performance on the international stage.
Among the defining highlights of her career are:
- Two Commonwealth Games silver medals and a bronze
- Three British National Championship titles
- World Team Championship gold in 2014
- Eight European Team Championship gold medals
- Landmark PSA World Tour victories at the NetSuite Open (2017 & 2018) and the Black Ball Open (2020).
Beyond her success on court, Perry has also made a lasting impact through her leadership and commitment to growing the sport. A trailblazer for equality and inclusion, she served as Women’s President on the PSA Board, where she helped shape policy, advocate for gender equality and strengthen the professional player pathway. She also played a key role on the Birmingham 2022 Athletes’ Advisory Committee, ensuring athlete welfare and representation sat at the heart of a home Commonwealth Games, and served as a Trustee of the PSA Foundation, supporting grassroots squash and widening access to the sport around the world.
Speaking about the honour, Perry said:
“I am deeply honoured to receive an OBE for services to squash. While my playing career brought many unforgettable moments, this recognition is especially meaningful because it acknowledges the work I have been proud to do beyond competition.
“Squash has shaped my life, and I have always believed in giving back to the sport -supporting players at the professional level, helping create opportunities for the next generation, and using squash as a force for social impact, particularly for those most in need.
“I am grateful to everyone I have worked alongside and to the players who continue to inspire me. This honour strengthens my commitment to helping squash grow, evolve, and thrive for future generations.”
Chris Robertson, Head of Performance Operations at England Squash said:
“Sarah-Jane has been an outstanding ambassador for our sport in every sense. Her dedication, professionalism and relentless drive for excellence have inspired countless players and coaches.
But just as impressive has been everything she’s given back - championing equality, supporting younger athletes and helping to shape the future of the game. We couldn’t be prouder of what she has achieved, and this honour is richly deserved.”
