Professor Carter leads new Board

We are delighted to announce that Professor Joy Carter will lead our new Board of Directors as Chair.

Professor Carter, currently Vice-Chancellor of the University of Winchester, recently led the first meeting of the new Board in London.

Joining Professor Carter are high-profile professionals from a range of industries providing us with the expertise to ensure we are at the forefront of embracing Sport England’s Good Governance Guide, to drive the sport forward to ensure it fulfils its potential, and become the nation’s number one racket sport.

Keir Worth, Chief Executive of England Squash and a member of the Board commented, “We are delighted and honoured to have a Board of this calibre. The process of selection and on-boarding is now complete and we are thrilled to be working with our new Directors who we are confident will lead our sport to greater heights.”

Our new Board of Non-Executive Directors includes industry leaders in banking, finance, marketing, communications, law, education, sports development, community sport and elite sporting performance.

Members of the Board are;


Kate Bedwell

Kate is the Head of Business Operations for Vodafone’s global money transfer service, M-Pesa. She has been with Vodafone for 6 years and is responsible for the governance, risk and compliance of M-Pesa globally as well as having accountability for the HR, finance and brand for M-Pesa at Group. Prior to joining Vodafone, she spent 10 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the tax advisory team specialising in VAT. Outside of work, she is the Chairman for the Gloucestershire Junior Squash Association and has two boys who both play squash at county level.


Adrian Bevington

Adrian is a seasoned professional with more than 25 years’ experience in communications and sport, including 17 years working within a national governing body in senior roles including Managing Director of the FA’s Club England. Currently, Adrian undertakes consultancy for a variety of organisations ranging from strategic executive business advice to external communications strategy. He brings a strong network in media and the world of sport.


Phil Collins

Phil has been part of the England Squash Board for the past three and a half years. In his professional career, Phil has been involved in the development of participation in a number of sports, and the management of leisure facilities during his time as Chief Executive of Hertsmere Leisure. He has also served on and chaired a number of Boards.


Nick Donald

Nick is a Managing Director and Head of UK Equity Capital Markets for HSBC. He has 27 years of investment banking experience, as well as being a chartered accountant. He has a track record of advising boards of major UK PLCs in raising finance and attracting a diverse investor base. He has previous Non-Executive Director experience with Leicester Tigers Rugby Club.


Andrew Light

Andrew has a strong finance background, developed during his 15 year career at Associated British Foods and nine years at Warburtons where he is currently Chief Financial Officer. He has also held a number of roles on the governing body of Grove Park Squash Club and the holding entity, Manchester Rugby Club, where he is currently Chair of Squash.


Gordon Lord

Gordon is the current Head of Elite Coach Development at the England and Wales Cricket Board. He brings deep knowledge of performance, coaching and coach development.


Eamonn O’Rourke

Eamonn has worked in the sport and leisure industry for 40 years. He is Retired Head of Leisure Services at Manchester City Council and a Board member of Trafford Leisure Trust. He has vast experience of working with the voluntary sport sector and also with Sport England. Eamonn is also Chairman of the 2017 PSA World Squash Championships Stakeholder Board for the World Squash Championships to be held in Manchester in December 2017.


Matt Pullen

Matt has more than 20 years’ experience in commercial business management and leadership. He is currently Managing Director of AkzoNobelUK & Ireland. During his last two roles at Bernard Matthews and AkzoNobelUK, he has lead large-scale, transformational change initiatives.


Jamie Singer

Jamie is a sports lawyer, founding partner and Head of Marketing at Onside Law. He has more than 15 years’ experience of advising sporting associations on the issues they face. He has practical experience of running a successful company and of the financial, regulatory, reporting, HR and marketing issues that boards deal with.


Paul Trott

Paul is Head of Strategy, Enterprise and Innovation at the Business School of the University of Portsmouth. As part of the executive committee, he has contributed to shaping the strategy and helping deliver a surplus of more than £15 million in 2015. Paul has been Chairman of Hampshire Squash since 2011
