Join our Uni Squash Champions Programme

Want to see more people on court? Join our Uni Squash Champions Programme for 2020/21 and help drive the number of people playing at your uni!

So what's a Uni Squash Champion?

Essentially it's a volunteer recruited by the host university and supported by England Squash to deliver squash activities to engage more students and staff to step on court. Champions will organise social, beginner-friendly sessions such as Squash 101 and Squash Girls Can for students and staff by working alongside the uni squash club, social sport programme and England Squash.

What did last year's Uni Squash Champions say?

Last year 13 universities took part in the programme which saw over 700 new players recorded in participation sessions. Here's what some of last year's Uni Squash Champions had to say;

Lewis, at University of Bristol, found the new Squash 101 session ideas he'd gained from the orientation day particularly useful and gained the confidence to create his own variations to keep beginner players coming back. He said,

'The number of beginner players consistently attending our 'Sunday Sessions' has increased dramatically.'

At University of Warwick the programme helped to address the lower numbers of females playing. Gwen said,

'We used to only have around 4 female players a week and it was always the same team players. This year we've had more non-squad members who want to try the sport and we actually managed to find new team players from it!'

Remus, at University of Sussex, had success by offering a different way to play squash that attracted new players who wanted a more social, informal squash session;

'I have learnt so much from the Uni Squash Champion programme. Squash isn't just 2 players playing against a wall. There's more to the sport that just meets the eye'
